Statement on the Criminal Indictment of Donald Trump for his Attempts to Overturn the Results of the 2020 Election in Fulton County, Georgia

On August 14, Donald Trump and 18 of his associates were indicted in Fulton County, Georgia on criminal charges for their efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

Yesterday, a grand jury of everyday Americans in Georgia reviewed the evidence and indicted former President Donald Trump and several of his key allies on 41 criminal charges related to their attempts to overturn the 2020 election.

According to the indictment, Trump and his allies illegally pressured Georgia officials to declare Trump the winner even though he had lost; organized a fake slate of Electoral College electors to declare him the winner; and hacked voting machines in Coffee County, Georgia, in an attempt to prove Trump won.

These actions constitute an illegal attack on our democracy and an effort to overturn the will of Georgia voters.

The indictments are a step towards accountability. As a Jewish organization whose founders fled autocracy and persecution to seek the protections and opportunities presented to them by the United States democracy, we say again: no one is above the law, not even a former president.
