Guiding us through the night are our co-hosts, Ken Jeong and Whoopi Goldberg. Ken — the comedy powerhouse behind The Hangover and Community, star of Netflix’s smash hit K-Pop Demon Hunters, and The Masked Singer favorite — brings his signature wit, energy, and maybe a little chaos. Joining him is the legendary Whoopi Goldberg, one of the rare entertainers to have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony, and the iconic star of The Color Purple, Ghost, and Sister Act. Together, they’ll keep the stars, songs, and surprises coming all night long.

During a special intermission conversation, acclaimed journalist Joy Reid will interview Workers Circle Community Catalyst Arianne Betancourt about her ongoing work to shine a light on human rights abuses in immigration detention, including the treatment her father, Justo Betancourt, experienced while detained at the Everglades detention facility known as Alligator Alcatraz.

Adding even more spirit to the evening, acclaimed klezmer violinist Jake Shulman-Ment will bring the vibrant sound of live klezmer music to this special performance.

The 1986 film was directed by Don Bluth from a screenplay by Judy Freudberg and Tony Geiss; based on a story by David Kirschner, Judy Freudberg and Tony Geiss; with original songs composed by Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann in collaboration with James Horner, who composed the original score. It was produced by Bluth, Gary Goldman and John Pomeroy and executive produced by Steven Spielberg. This special live table reading of An American Tail is directed by award-winning producer Steven Tabakin.

Why This Event Matters

Nearly 40 years after its release, An American Tail remains a powerful story about immigration, hope, resilience, and the search for freedom.

As attacks on immigrants and democratic freedoms continue, this beloved film reminds us why these stories — and the values they represent — still matter today.
