(New York, N.Y.) — Upon the Supreme Court’s decision in Moore v. Harper, Ann Toback, CEO of the Workers Circle, stated:

“Today’s Supreme Court decision in Moore v. Harper is a resounding victory for American Democracy and American voters. The Court reaffirmed the checks and balances that have been hallmarks of our government for more than 200 years.

“The Workers Circle was a proud signatory on an amicus brief that urged the Court to reject the argument that state legislatures could write election and voting laws unchecked. Given the long history of voter suppression and current rise of state laws that create barriers for voters of color in particular, we urged the court to keep critical guardrails that have advanced equal access to the ballot. The Court’s decision in Moore v. Harper is the nail in the coffin of that specious theory.

“The Supreme Court’s ruling is a powerful blow to partisan lawmakers who prize power over democracy and who would manipulate voting maps, suppress votes and foment chaos in our election system in support of their autocratic goals. This decision comes not a moment too soon for our democracy.

“The Workers Circle will continue to fight forward from today’s victory against all forms of voter suppression and election interference in our advocacy, at the ballot box, and in the streets. From gathering Jewish organizations to speak out on this case to mobilizing our people to demand Congress pass federal legislation to stop efforts to restrict and undermine our freedom to vote.”
