Course Goals
: Kulbak is a writer of contrasts: both a lyricist and an epic writer; both emotional and intellectual; an expressionist, a romanticist, and a realist. Drawing on his Jewish heritage and its folklore, mixed with Russian symbolism and Western European expressionism, Kulbak created genuine works that have no equal and made him a thoughtful writer and intellectual poet.
Course Tools: We will examine examples of Kulbak’s prose and poetry from various periods in his life including his time in Vilne, Berlin, and the Soviet Union: Zelmenioner, Vilne, Disner tshaild herald, Berlin, Raysn, lider fun ale periodn.
Additional Info: This course is taught entirely in Yiddish.
