(NEW YORK) — One year since the January 6th violent insurrection, Ann Toback, CEO of the Workers Circle, released the following statement:

“At this moment, our democracy hangs in the balance. As Jews, we know what the slide into autocracy looks like. What we do now will shape the course of history. Today we mark one year since the violent insurrection of January 6th with resolute determination to protect our democracy. We shall not let the hatred and violence of right-wing extremists, be they lawmakers or citizens, extinguish government by, with, and for the people. We will intensify our peaceful activism together with civil rights, democracy, labor, and student groups to ensure the promise of our democracy for all of us no matter our race, zip code, or income. We demand President Biden and the Senate uphold their oath of office and not let anything stand in the way of passing the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act now. Our democracy can’t wait.”
