Workers Circle Responds to President Biden’s Executive Order on Promoting Access to Voting

March 7, 2021

Workers Circle CEO Ann Toback responds to President Biden’s Executive Order on promoting access to voting:

“On the 56th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, President Biden issued a powerful Executive Order to expand voting access and urged Congress to pass the urgent and comprehensive democracy reform package, the For the People Act (HR 1 / S1), and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. Since the 2020 Election, the Brennan Center reports 43 states have already introduced, prefiled, or carried more than 250 bills to restrict or limit voting access this year. The President’s E.O. focuses particular attention on addressing barriers to the ballot box faced by Black voters and other voters of color, Native Americans, and Americans with disabilities, among other important reforms. Voting should be a right, not a fight. The Workers Circle welcomes this E.O. as an important step for strengthening our democracy.”
