Take Action on the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act Today
The John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (S. 4) was reintroduced into the Senate on Thursday, February 29. This bill will strengthen the Voting Rights Act of 1965 which has been weakened by the Supreme Court over the past decade and supersede new state voter suppression laws. S. 4 will restore and update the preclearance coverage formula that the Supreme Court gutted in the Shelby County v. Holder decision in 2013. It will also renew and strengthen the ability of private citizens to fight discriminatory voting laws in court which was weakened by the Supreme Court's decision in Brnovich v. Democratic National Committee in 2021.
