Course Goals: Improve vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing, and conversation skills, and learn about Jewish life in Eastern Europe while reading wonderful stories.
Course Tools: Stories from Isaac Bashevis Singer’s memoir In mayn tatns besdn-shtub (In My Father’s Court), one of the classics of Yiddish literature. Chapters will be provided by the instructor. Grammar will also be provided by the instructor. Stories that were read last year will not be repeated.
Additional Information: This course is designed for those with approximately 4 years or more of Yiddish language study and who have completed Yiddish: An Introduction to the Language, Literature & Culture, Vol. II by Sheva Zucker (or the equivalent) and beyond. This course will be taught entirely in Yiddish.
