Reading and Discussing in Yiddish Elie Wiesel's largely unknown first book, Un di velt hot geshvign (...And the World Was Silent)
Course Goals: Although the book is difficult to find in print, a PDF of the book will be available for free download. A full-length recording of a native Yiddish speaker reading the original Yiddish text will also be available for free download. Students may find that their perspective on Elie Wiesel's first book Night (in French 1958 and in English 1960) will change and deepen their appreciation of Wiesel's most intimately honest and penetrating literary testimony as he first wrote it in his mame-loshn.
Additional Info: The class will be conducted in Yiddish on a level suitable for upper intermediate and advanced Yiddish students.
