Course Goals: What is a dybbuk? We will explore the nature of this unique and uncanny shtetl spirit through watching an episode of YiddishPOP, the first eight minutes of the film A Serious Man, and select scenes from the film based on Ansky’s play, Der Dybbuk. We will work on understanding the vocabulary in each text and analyze the philosophical ramifications at a slow, intermediate-level pace.

Additional Info: No knowledge of the alef-beys required.
