How to be an Effective Advocate

Join the Center for Common Ground and the Workers Circle for the next installment of our Effective Advocate series.

Each month, Effective Advocate provides a chance for us to gather with a warm community for updates on how current events are affecting our democratic system, learn about key federal legislation, and train on concrete actions you can take as an advocate for a better and more beautiful world.

This month, we will explore how to make your message heard through a powerful 30-second phone call to your elected officials.

We will go over how to perfect your own storytelling skills, how to craft a call script on political issues you care about, and how to coordinate with other activists to get your message across in succinct and impactful ways.

Some of what we will go over together:

Tips and tricks to get comfortable speaking on the phone and telling your story in person

How to put together materials and a script for your own call to an elected official, and how to share it with others

How to escalate your calls into other actions, such as legislative visits

Effective Advocate will also include key updates on the halting of SAVE Act voter suppression bills, and other legislative wins in a tumultuous political landscape.
