The years 1881 — 1923 brought millions of our eastern European ancestors to the shores of the New World. Songs of longing, love, and labor and, of course, songs of the journey across the ocean will be heard and sung. American Yiddish musical theatre was a powerful force in the turn-of-the-century immigrant experience. The theatre brought to life the immigrant’s dreams, their difficulties in the new world and the nostalgia for their old country. We’ll also learn songs of the Great Yiddish Theatre. Song booklets in transliteration with English translations, sheet music and a YouTube playlist to hear all the music will be provided. Lomir Zingen!
