Following President Biden’s July 13 speech on voting rights, Ann Toback, CEO of the Workers Circle released this statement:

We commend President Biden for calling passage of the For the People Act (S1) a “national imperative” during his speech yesterday. But these times call for President Biden to be bolder! Even as he spoke from Philadelphia, hundreds of voter suppression laws continued their ominous march through state legislatures, trampling the voting rights of people of color, jeopardizing every American’s right to vote and to have that vote counted, and threatening our democracy.

In June, Republicans filibustered debate on the For the People Act, federal legislation that would stop state voter suppression laws in their tracks. Right now, all senators must choose: will they pledge their allegiance to the Jim Crow filibuster or to the voting rights of every American? The Workers Circle calls on President Biden to use the full power of his office to demand the Senate not let the filibuster stand in the way of our voting rights and erode the foundation of our Democracy and to act without delay to pass the For the People Act.
