Event Manager — Temporary Position
Overview of Organization: Celebrating its 125th anniversary in 2025, the Workers Circle is a national, Jewish social justice organization founded by Eastern European immigrants who came to the United States fleeing autocracy and persecution, and seeking democratic freedoms and economic opportunities. That history drives the organization’s work for an inclusive democracy and social equality today. The Workers Circle’s activism is rooted in 1,000 years of Yiddish culture and tradition. Through strategic and impactful social justice initiatives, vibrant Yiddish language classes and programs, and interactive educational activities, the Workers Circle powers a multigenerational community of activists that is building “a better and more beautiful world for all.”
Duration: Mid-September 2025 – March 30, 2026
Schedule: Part-time, 15-20 hours per week
Location: Hybrid - minimum one day per week required in Manhattan office
Compensation: $40-50 /hour (commensurate with experience)
Reports to: Deputy Executive Director
Union status: This is not a union position
The Event Manager is responsible for the conceptualization, development, and execution of events held online, offline, and in hybrid formats, primarily focused on Social Justice and Jewish Culture. This role manages all logistics of event planning from conception through speaker preparation, run-through meetings, and post-event debriefings.
The Event Manager works collaboratively with the Marketing and Communications department, program staff, volunteers, and external vendors to execute comprehensive event promotion and logistics. Attendance at evening (in-person and online), weekend (in-person and online), and select Jewish holiday events (online) is required.
Key Responsibilities:
Event Planning and Execution
Plan and implement lifecycle management for small and large-scale events including holiday celebrations, member programs, social justice marches and advocacy events (under direction of Director of Social Justice), annual member meetings, and the Annual Benefit
Develop comprehensive event calendar incorporating existing programming and new initiatives
Coordinate and execute logistics while developing and monitoring detailed timelines and budgets
Serve as on-site event manager as needed (online and in-person)
Data Management and Analysis:
Monitor and track event attendance
Provide regular statistical updates on event performance for board meetings
Analyze event metrics and debriefing feedback to make data-driven recommendations for program improvements
Speaker and Staff Coordination:
Prepare all speakers and support staff prior to events, including technical run-throughs and content briefings
Coordinate with Marketing Manager on event promotion through email campaigns, postcards, flyers, automated calls, and social media, collaborating on design and messaging strategy
Maintain relationships with key vendors
Develop agendas for and facilitate debriefing sessions and regular planning meetings
Skills and Experience
5+ years of event planning experience required
Digital event platform proficiency - Proficiency with running Zoom events (utilizing multimedia, breakout rooms, etc.), experience with event software required
Evening/weekend availability - Flexibility for event schedules required
Project management expertise - Ability to manage multiple events simultaneously with competing deadlines required
CRM software experience - Data entry, tracking, and reporting capabilities preferred
Budget management - Experience monitoring event budgets required
Vendor management - Coordinating with caterers, venues, AV technicians, and other service providers required
Strong written and verbal communication required
Nonprofit sector experience - Familiarity with member-based organizations preferred
Marketing coordination experience - Working with communications teams on promotional materials required
Data analysis skills - Ability to interpret attendance metrics and make data-driven recommendations preferred
