Remembering the Holocaust

Join us for a discussion of the new bilingual Yiddish-English translation of Hersh Smolar's Yidn on gele latesJews Without Yellow Stars — a collection of actual and semi-fictional short stories of Jews trying to escape the Minsk ghetto and those who did escape and were able to join up with Soviet partisan groups.

Our panel includes Dr. Gennady Estraikh, together with the book's translator Ruth Murphy and editor Catherine Madsen.

In this presentation, Anna Miransky will speak about her book, Poem by Poem, Fable by Fable, Discovering My Father and Learning His Language. This book has just won the 2025 Canadian Jewish Literary Award in the category of Yiddish.  Anna Miransky’s father was the poet and fabulist Peretz Miransky, a member of Yung-Vilne, the last important Yiddish Literary group in Eastern Europe.

The Workers Circle’s Trip to Yiddishland is our seven day, six night retreat. This trip features five levels of Yiddish classes, dance and klezmer, theater and music workshops, concerts, and children’s program.

All are welcome, from brand–new Yiddishists to fluent speakers to celebrate its 20th Anniversary.
